The New-Carve is a configurable mechanical kit from Canadian company CNC4Newbie. Several sizes are offered, so choose the required travel before comparing complete packages. The base kit leaves the builder to supply motors, wiring, controller, software, spindle, mount and work surface unless these are selected as extras. Its aluminum structure and linear guides provide the mechanical foundation; the remaining component choices, assembly and setup are part of the build.

The HD510 is an older Shark model with a 25in square cutting area and 7in Z travel. Its table is larger than its cutting envelope. The standard package includes VCarve Desktop and pendant control, but a compatible router or spindle must be supplied separately. Check remaining-stock or used-machine condition, included software and accessories before buying.

The Shark HD520 provides 25 x 50 x 7 inches of travel on a 28 x 63 inch table. The third-generation D.600 is a modular desktop CNC with a 417 x 596 x 132mm workspace, an aluminum structure, roller guidance and lead-screw drives. The machine is listed at 20kg without its table. Compatible milling motors, laser and cutting or printing heads are selected separately, so compare the complete tool and software package. UCCNC and WinPC-NC are available control options. Its appeal is the interchangeable-tool platform and compact format; it should not be sold on unmeasured precision claims. Check the generation on used listings, since older D.600 dimensions differ from the current machine.

CNC 6090 describes a roughly 600 x 900mm router format sold by several manufacturers, not a single standardized machine. Listings differ in frame construction, Z travel, spindle power and control hardware. ChinaCNCzone, for example, advertises aluminum-frame versions with ball screws and several water-cooled spindle options. Identify the exact model before comparing it with branded machines: confirm the working envelope, net weight, collet size, controller interface, software license, electrical requirements and warranty. The input's 85kg weight and 100mm Z figure are not verified for a specific 6090, and the format alone does not establish aggressive metal-cutting capability.

The Mega V 2 is MillRight's replacement for the original Mega V. The standard size cuts 483 x 483 mm (19 x 19 inches) with a 159 mm (6.25 inch) Z stroke and needs a 711 x 838 mm (28 x 33 inch) footprint. OpenBuilds announced its retirement, so assess parts, controller support and documentation availability before buying a used machine or a third-party kit.

The PROVerXL 6050 Plus combines a medium-size working area with linear guides, lead screws and a Hybrid Table. While the 300W spindle remains the weak point, the rigid frame means you can upgrade to a more powerful spindle later without the frame being the limiting factor. It bridges the gap between true budget machines and mid-range hobbyist CNCs.

The Sienci LongMill MK2 12x12 is the entry-level model in the LongMill lineup, offering a compact 305x305mm work area. What sets it apart from budget machines is the build quality -- anti-backlash lead screws, steel components, and the ability to mount a full-size trim router. Sienci Labs provides some of the best documentation in the hobby CNC space, and their gSender software is purpose-built and polished. The 12x12 model is best for those with limited workspace or budget, though the 30x30 model is a significantly better value if space and budget allow.

The current D.420 is the compact third-generation STEPCRAFT D-series machine. It uses a modular tool mount and supports milling, engraving and optional cutting tools. Working space is 298 x 415 x 132mm, which is smaller than the overall footprint. Specify the control interface, software, spindle and workholding when pricing a complete setup.

VEVOR sells several machines under the 3040 name, and they differ in spindle, drive screws and controller. VEVOR's own 3040 page lists a 300W DC spindle and contradicts itself on speed and screw type, while other listings ship an 800W water-cooled spindle with ball screws. Check the exact listing for the spindle, screws and controller before buying, and do not assume the figures on this page apply to every 3040. Soft-metal engraving is not the same as milling metal parts.

The SilverBack 1x1m is the large variant, with a maker-listed 1000 x 1000 x 100mm working area, lead-screw drive and an aluminum bed. It includes a 500W spindle in a 52mm mount, plus a 65mm mount for a compatible Makita upgrade. A separate router is therefore optional. Its working envelope is 300 x 200 x 80mm, so it suits small parts, engraving and compact signs. The main limits are the small bed and NEMA17 drive system; a parts list alone does not establish aggressive metal-cutting performance. The stock router uses ER11 collets: LUNYEE lists support for 1-7mm shanks, although only a 1/8 inch collet is supplied. Budget for compatible tooling and workholding for your intended material.

The Z1 is Makera's smaller desktop machine with a 200 x 200 x 100 mm envelope, cast frame, linear rails and 150 W spindle. Its manual quick tool changer should not be confused with an automatic tool changer. Hackster's individual review reported roughly +/-0.15 mm in its metal tests; this is a test result, not a general accuracy guarantee. The base Z1 has lead screws and open-loop axis motors, while the Pro adds ball screws and closed-loop axes. The small envelope, modest spindle and software workflow remain practical buying considerations.

The HDM V3 combines heavy aluminum construction, profile rails and ball screws with a water-cooled spindle. Its travel includes an over-front section for edge work. The machine targets wood and non-ferrous metals, weighs about 120kg and ships to the US and Canada. Plan for a strong bench, dust extraction and the separate electrical supplies.

The Carbide 3D Shapeoko 5.1 Pro 4x4 has been succeeded by the 5.1 Pro. The current maker page gives 1237 x 1237 mm X/Y travel and 155 mm Z travel, reduced with some dust-shoe configurations. HG15 linear guides and ball screws serve all three axes. The Hybrid Table, BitSetter and Carbide software are included, while the cutting motor and a suitable support arrangement are separate choices. It is a large machine for sheet goods, furniture and smaller aluminum parts. Check the revision, spindle mount and available clearance when comparing an older 5 Pro with the current listing.

The current Shapeoko 5.1 Pro succeeds the 5 Pro; this page covers the 4x2 configuration. It uses profile guides, ball screws and an HDZ Z axis, with BitSetter and the Hybrid Table included. Carbide Motion operates the machine and external CAM can supply toolpaths. A router or spindle and a suitable supporting table are separate purchases. Basic clamps and a Sweepy dust boot are supplied, but you still need a dust extractor and cutters for the job.
