Quick verdict

Mekanika is the closest thing Europe has to an answer to Avid or Sienci, and the spec sheet holds up: HGR20 prismatic rails and 16mm C7 ball screws on every axis, an 8mm steel plate frame, a 2.2kW spindle included, and a five year warranty. It is open source, so the design is inspectable rather than a black box. The controller is the unusual choice, a Raspberry Pi running PlanetCNC TNG, which works well but has a much smaller community than GRBL or Masso.

Who this fits best

A European workshop that wants industrial motion components, an included spindle and a warranty that outlasts the hype cycle

Buy this if

A European workshop that wants industrial motion components, an included spindle and a warranty that outlasts the hype cycle. Built in Belgium with a five year warranty, which is unusual at any price.

Skip this if

Shipped as a kit, so expect a real assembly project, and planetCNC TNG is capable but niche, with a small community.

What else you still need

A sturdy frame or table, dust collection and a few days of assembly time. The spindle and PlanetCNC controller come with the kit.

Material reality check

Steel plate and 2.2kW handle hardwood, sheet goods and aluminium well. A capable all-rounder, not a dedicated steel mill.

Better alternative if...

you want a machine that arrives closer to ready-to-run with a bigger community. See Sienci Labs AltMill MK2 2x4

Where it wins

  • Built in Belgium with a five year warranty, which is unusual at any price
  • HGR20 prismatic rails and 16mm C7 ball screws on all three axes
  • Open source design, so you can see and modify what you bought
  • 2.2kW VFD spindle included rather than sold separately
  • EU shipping, EU support, EU spare parts

Where it falls short

  • Shipped as a kit, so expect a real assembly project
  • PlanetCNC TNG is capable but niche, with a small community
  • 120kg needs a dedicated frame and floor space
  • Expensive against an AltMill or Onefinity of similar size
  • Lead times can be long
