Quick verdict
The AR8 Pro V6 is Axiom's current 24 x 48 inch Pro model, with a 610 x 1210 x 150 mm working envelope on a welded steel base. It includes a 2.2 kW (3 HP) liquid-cooled spindle with an onboard cooling system, plus linear guides and 16 mm ball screws on all three axes, and Axiom lists positional accuracy of +/- 0.1 mm. Files run from a USB drive on the RichAuto B18 handheld controller, so no PC has to sit at the machine. Compared with the V5, Axiom lists 48 V stepper motors, an upgraded VFD and cooling system, a redesigned gantry and prewiring for its rotary kit and laser, while travel, spindle rating and the published 184 kg weight are unchanged. Budget separately for CAM software, the stand, tooling and dust collection, and plan for a 220 V single-phase supply.
Who this fits best
Small shops and serious hobbyists who want a 2 x 4 foot CNC with an included liquid-cooled spindle and standalone control, and can provide 220 V power and a CAM license
Buy this if
Small shops and serious hobbyists who want a 2 x 4 foot CNC with an included liquid-cooled spindle and standalone control, and can provide 220 V power and a CAM license. 2 x 4 foot work area with linear guides and 16 mm ball screws on all axes.
Skip this if
610 mm of X travel means full sheets must be cut down first, and needs a 220 V single-phase, 10 A supply.
What else you still need
CAM software (Axiom offers VCarve Pro or Aspire), a 220 V single-phase 10 A circuit, the optional AR8 stand or a frame that carries 184 kg, router bits, a dust shoe and dust collector, and hold-down clamps.
Material reality check
Wood, plywood, MDF, plastics, foam, composites and phenolic, plus aluminum and brass with suitable bits and light passes.
Better alternative if...
If you need more than 24 inches of width, for example to cut half sheets without ripping them first, the Avid PRO4848 gives a 4 x 4 foot cutting area, though you assemble it and choose the spindle and PC-based control yourself. See Avid PRO4848
Where it wins
- 2 x 4 foot work area with linear guides and 16 mm ball screws on all axes
- 2.2 kW (3 HP) liquid-cooled spindle and onboard cooling system included
- Standalone B18 controller runs files from USB without a tethered PC
- 48 V stepper motors and prewiring for the optional rotary axis and laser
- 150 mm Z travel and 165 mm gantry clearance above the table
Where it falls short
- 610 mm of X travel means full sheets must be cut down first
- Needs a 220 V single-phase, 10 A supply
- No CAM software included; VCarve Pro or Aspire is extra
- The 184 kg machine needs a planned lift and a stand, which is sold separately
- One-year warranty
