Quick verdict

The Gweike M3 Pro is a 1200W fiber laser welder whose source and head also mount on an enclosed 620 x 620 mm CNC cutting bed, with an 80W CO2 laser added for cutting and engraving non-metals. At $11,499 on Gweike's US store it undercuts the xTool MetalFab welder and cutter by about $4,500 and adds the CO2 laser, but it is out of stock with the next batch due in late October. Gweike claims CNC cuts up to 10 mm, handheld welding from 0.2 to 5 mm, 600 mm/s and ±0.02 mm repeatability. It is a 300 kg shop machine that arrives by truck and needs a forklift, a hard-wired 220V supply and bottled nitrogen and oxygen, and Gweike publishes far less cutting and safety detail than xTool does.

What you still need

A forklift for unloading and at least 1 m of clearance on every side; an electrician to hard-wire 210 to 240V single phase (the FAQ says about 5 kW with a 32A breaker for the laser and 16A for the bed, the manual asks for at least 63A total, two switches of at least 30A and 6 sq mm cable); nitrogen at 2.0 MPa and oxygen at 0.8 MPa with regulators, or a compressor for thin stainless and aluminum; 7 L of distilled water (plus antifreeze in winter) for the CO2 chiller; sand, gravel or firebricks for the slag cart; ducting for the exhaust fan; a Windows PC; filler wire; goggles and gloves (the manual lists them as buyer supplied); and screens for handheld welding

Material reality check

Gweike's material chart lists stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, titanium, silver, and zinc and magnesium alloys for fiber cutting, welding and cleaning, with a 10 mm CNC cut figure that is not tied to a metal. Its FAQ recommends oxygen for carbon steel, nitrogen for stainless over 4 mm and compressed air for thinner stainless and aluminum. The 80W CO2 laser cuts wood, acrylic, MDF, leather, fabric and paper and engraves materials such as marble, with up to 20 mm cutting claimed. Never process PVC or vinyl.

Better alternative if

you want a better documented package with published thickness per metal, two cameras, xTool Studio and an in-stock machine, and can pay about $4,500 more: xTool MetalFab 1200W Laser Welder and CNC Cutter

Pros and cons

Why we like it

  • One 1200W fiber source welds, cleans, cuts by hand and drives an enclosed 620 x 620 mm CNC bed
  • Adds an 80W CO2 laser for wood and acrylic, which the xTool MetalFab does not have
  • $11,499 is about $4,500 less than the xTool MetalFab 1200W welder and cutter
  • Front and rear feed for sheet up to 620 mm wide, height following on the cutting head and a wireless control handle
  • 2-year machine warranty, 1 year on the laser source and CO2 tube

Watch out for

  • Out of stock on Gweike's US store, with the next batch due in late October
  • 300 kg and delivered by truck: you need a forklift and at least 1 m of clearance on every side
  • Hard-wired 220V with conflicting figures: about 5 kW on 32A and 16A breakers in the FAQ, at least 63A total in the manual
  • Gweike does not say which metal the 10 mm figure is for, and publishes no window rating, camera or software name
  • Handheld welding is an open Class 4 beam, and eye protection is not clearly included
