Quick verdict
The PRONAX Forge is the machine that made automatic tool changing affordable. A 2.2kW VFD spindle with a five-slot NAX5 changer, ball screws and closed-loop motors, bundled at 3999 dollars, undercuts everything comparable by a wide margin. It runs plain GRBL 1.1f rather than a proprietary controller, so your existing CAM and sender still work. The compromise is the Y axis, which uses a round rod where X gets a proper HG20 profile rail.
Who this fits best
A small shop that wants automatic tool changing without stepping up to Avid or CAMaster money
Buy this if
A small shop that wants automatic tool changing without stepping up to Avid or CAMaster money. First mainstream hobby brand to put a real automatic tool changer under 4000 dollars.
Skip this if
The ATC is a bundle option, the base price does not include it, and 20mm round rod on Y is the weak axis next to the HG20 on X.
What else you still need
The NAX5 tool changer if you want ATC, because the base price does not include it, plus a dust collector, compressed air for the spindle and a sturdy table.
Material reality check
The 2.2kW spindle and steel frame are comfortable in hardwood, sheet goods and aluminium. The round-rod Y axis is the limit for heavy metal work.
Better alternative if...
you need ball screws and linear rails on every axis for precision work. See Sienci Labs AltMill MK2 4x4
Where it wins
- First mainstream hobby brand to put a real automatic tool changer under 4000 dollars
- 2.2kW VFD spindle is a serious step up from trim-router machines
- Ball screws and closed-loop NEMA 24 motors at 3.5 Nm
- Plain GRBL 1.1f, so the whole existing software ecosystem works
- 800 by 800mm envelope covers most furniture and sign work
Where it falls short
- The ATC is a bundle option, the base price does not include it
- 20mm round rod on Y is the weak axis next to the HG20 on X
- GRBL is less capable than Masso or Centroid for ATC macros
- Batch shipping means real lead times
- Genmitsu support is thinner than Carbide or Sienci
