Quick verdict
The Carvera is the machine that made automatic tool changing normal at hobby prices. The 6-tool changer is the real thing, so a job with a roughing pass, a finishing pass and a chamfer runs unattended instead of pausing for you. It is fully enclosed, which matters more than spec sheets suggest if the machine lives in a spare room. The trade is power: 200W is fine for aluminium in light passes and plenty for wood and plastics, but it is not a metal-hogging machine.
Who this fits best
Someone who wants hands-off multi-tool jobs on a desk, in a room where an open router would be unbearable
Buy this if
Someone who wants hands-off multi-tool jobs on a desk, in a room where an open router would be unbearable. A genuine 6-tool automatic tool changer, not a quick-change collet, which is rare at any hobby price.
Skip this if
200W spindle is modest, so heavy cuts in metal need light passes, and small 360 by 240mm envelope rules out sheet goods.
What else you still need
End mills, a dust extractor and materials. The ATC, probe, enclosure and software are included.
Material reality check
Strong for small precise parts in aluminium, brass, plastics and PCB. The 200W spindle keeps metal cuts light, and the envelope rules out sheet goods.
Better alternative if...
you want more spindle power for metal in an enclosed tool-changer machine. See Gweike C1
Where it wins
- A genuine 6-tool automatic tool changer, not a quick-change collet, which is rare at any hobby price
- Fully enclosed so it is quiet and keeps chips and dust contained
- 2.5W laser module built in, so engraving needs no conversion
- Automatic tool length and workpiece probing
- Wireless control from phone, tablet or desktop
Where it falls short
- 200W spindle is modest, so heavy cuts in metal need light passes
- Small 360 by 240mm envelope rules out sheet goods
- Expensive next to an open-frame router with the same footprint
- Makera CAM is young compared with Fusion or VCarve
- Proprietary tool holders for the changer
