Quick verdict
The 48x30 is the larger LongMill MK3, with the same 15mm profiled linear rails, closed-loop NEMA 23 motors and grblHAL controller as the 30x30 but a 49 x 32 inch cutting area. That size covers most sign work and furniture parts, and Sienci says the stronger motors make vertical mounting practical if floor space is tight. At about $1,800 before a router it is one of the cheapest ways to get linear rails on a machine this big, though the long X axis and lead screws mean it is still a wood-first machine.
Who this fits best
Woodworkers who want a large, accurate benchtop CNC for signs and furniture parts without paying for a full-sheet machine
Buy this if
Woodworkers who want a large, accurate benchtop CNC for signs and furniture parts without paying for a full-sheet machine. 49 x 32 inch cutting area handles signs, cabinet parts and long boards.
Skip this if
Router not included, and the longer X axis gives up some stiffness compared with the 30x30.
What else you still need
A trim router or AutoSpin T1, a stiff 4 x 3 foot table or a wall mount, a wasteboard, dust collection and workholding.
Material reality check
Built for wood, sheet goods and plastics. Light aluminium work is possible, but the long gantry and lead screws reward conservative cuts.
Better alternative if...
you need more rigidity for aluminium or production work. See Sienci Labs AltMill MK2 2x4
Where it wins
- 49 x 32 inch cutting area handles signs, cabinet parts and long boards
- Linear rails and closed-loop motors on all axes at well under $2,000
- Same pre-assembled, two-hour setup approach as the 30x30
- Can be mounted vertically, which saves a lot of floor space
- Excellent free software and strong Canadian support
Where it falls short
- Router not included
- The longer X axis gives up some stiffness compared with the 30x30
- Lead screws rather than ball screws
- Needs a large, flat table you build or buy separately
- Roughly six weeks of lead time at launch
