Quick verdict
The P2S is xTool's desktop CO2 machine: a 55W glass tube, a 600 x 308 mm work area and 600 mm/s engraving in a closed box with water cooling, air assist and exhaust built in. CO2 is the right tool for cutting: it goes through clear and colored acrylic, and xTool claims 20 mm acrylic and 18 mm walnut in one pass. Dual 16MP cameras and LiDAR autofocus make it about as easy as CO2 gets. The trade-offs are size and weight (45 kg), a tube that wears out over thousands of hours, and no bare metal marking. At $2,999 for the standalone it is strong value if you will actually use the cutting power.
What you still need
A vent route to the outside or a purifier, because the built-in fan only moves smoke, it does not filter it. Honeycomb panel, riser base, RA3 rotary and conveyor are extras (the $4,169 Versatile bundle adds the riser base, RA3 and conveyor). Antifreeze for the internal coolant comes in the box. Plan for a replacement tube eventually, a heavy-duty table, and 10.6 µm safety glasses if you get the Class 4 version or work with the lid open.Material reality check
Cuts wood, plywood (xTool says stay at or under 12 mm), MDF, acrylic in any color including clear, leather, fabric, felt, paper, card and laser-safe rubber. Engraves glass, stone, slate, ceramic tile, anodized aluminum and painted or coated metal. It cannot cut metal and cannot mark bare stainless or brass without a marking spray. Polycarbonate and ABS cut badly and give off nasty fumes, and PVC and vinyl must never go in it.Better alternative if
if you mainly engrave and cut thinner wood and want a lighter machine with no tube or coolant to look after: xTool S1 40WScores

Pros and cons
Why we like it
- Cuts acrylic in any color, including clear, which no diode can do
- 55W CO2 cuts 18 mm hardwood in one pass, far faster than any diode
- Dual 16MP cameras and LiDAR autofocus make placing jobs close to point and shoot
- Water cooling, air assist pump and exhaust fan are built in, no separate chiller to buy
- Passthrough slot handles boards up to 3 m long
Watch out for
- 45 kg with a 1000 x 639 mm footprint, so it needs a solid bench and two people to move
- The glass CO2 tube is a consumable rated for about 6,000 to 8,000 hours
- Cannot mark bare metal without a marking spray
- LightBurn does not drive the cameras or autofocus, and xTool's March 2026 firmware restricts LightBurn further
- Rated to run between 10 and 30 C, so a cold garage needs care
