Quick verdict

The LP5 is LaserPecker's compact galvo engraver that puts a 20W 1064 nm fiber source and a 20W 450 nm diode in one head, switchable in software. The fiber handles metal (LaserPecker claims 0.5 mm stainless cut in four passes, plus colour marking), while the diode covers wood, leather and dark acrylic. Galvo scanning at up to 10,000 mm/s makes small logos and tags very quick. The trade-off is size and price: the native field is 100 x 100 mm, and the $2,699 Standard Bundle is an open Class 4 device unless you add the $559 enclosure. It is a production tool for small parts, not a sheet cutter.

What you still need

The Safety Enclosure ($559, or $899 with air purifier) if anyone else is in the room or you want the camera, fume extraction or LaserPecker's $359 Desktop Air Purifier, the Rotary Extension ($299) or Versatile Electric Roller ($149) for tumblers and rings, the Slide Extension ($199) for long parts, and a LightBurn licence if you prefer it to the free Design Space

Material reality check

The fiber source engraves and marks stainless steel, aluminium, brass, silver, titanium and many plastics, and can cut thin metal sheet (maker claims 0.4 mm iron in 2 passes and 0.5 mm stainless in 4). The diode cuts and engraves wood, leather, paper and dark opaque acrylic, and engraves glass, stone and rubber. The diode cannot cut clear or blue acrylic, and thick wood cuts on a 100 mm field are slow, small-part jobs. Never laser PVC or vinyl with either source.

you only engrave and mark metal and want a dedicated fiber machine rather than paying for the diode too: Gweike G2 20W

Pros and cons

Why we like it

  • Two laser sources in one head: 20W fiber for metal and 20W diode for wood, leather and dark acrylic
  • Galvo scanning at up to 10,000 mm/s finishes small logos and tags in seconds
  • Fiber source does deep metal engraving, colour marking on stainless and thin metal cutting
  • No assembly, about 6 kg with stand, easy to take to markets and pop-ups
  • Electric stand tilts for slanted and vertical surfaces, and jobs can run offline from a USB drive

Watch out for

  • Native field is only 100 x 100 mm; 160 x 300 mm needs the $199 Slide Extension
  • $2,699 before the enclosure, purifier and rotary most businesses end up adding
  • Class 1 safety and the positioning camera only come with the $559 Safety Enclosure
  • Focus is set by stand height and red dots, despite marketing copy that mentions automatic focus
  • Reviewers found it loud and reported fiddly Wi-Fi setup and desktop detection
