Quick verdict

If you actually need five axes on a desk, this is the machine with a delivery record behind it. A wave of crowdfunded 5-axis machines has raised over ten million dollars between them while delivering almost nothing, and the Pocket NC has been shipping for years. That is most of the argument. The rest of it is a 50000 RPM air spindle, real simultaneous motion, and a mature Fusion post. It costs about twice what the campaigns ask, and the envelope is tiny.

Who this fits best

Small complex metal parts that genuinely need five axes, where a delivered machine matters more than a cheap one

Buy this if

Small complex metal parts that genuinely need five axes, where a delivered machine matters more than a cheap one. The only desktop 5-axis machine with a multi-year record of actually shipping.

Skip this if

Very expensive for the work envelope, and tiny 116 by 128mm envelope, this is a parts machine not a panel machine.

What else you still need

A shop air compressor for the air spindle, 5-axis CAM such as Fusion 360 with the right extension, and small-shank tooling.

Material reality check

Small 5-axis parts in aluminium, plastics and wax. Size is the hard limit long before material is.

Better alternative if...

you mostly need 3-axis parts and want a much larger envelope for the money. See Carbide 3D Nomad 4

Where it wins

  • The only desktop 5-axis machine with a multi-year record of actually shipping
  • 50000 RPM air spindle suits the small cutters 5-axis work depends on
  • True simultaneous 5-axis, not just 3+2 indexing
  • In stock with roughly a six week lead time
  • Mature Fusion 360 post-processor and an established user base

Where it falls short

  • Very expensive for the work envelope
  • Tiny 116 by 128mm envelope, this is a parts machine not a panel machine
  • Needs a shop air supply, which many home workshops do not have
  • CAM is not included
  • Air spindle power is low, so material removal is slow
