Quick verdict
The PROVerXL 4030S is a reworked PROVerXL 4030 with a 710W trim router, a 32-bit GRBL controller and HG15 linear guides on a moving-head Z axis. Travel is 400 x 300 x 120mm, and Sainsmart quotes 5000 mm/min and ±0.05mm running accuracy. The NEMA23 motors on DM542 drivers give it more drive torque than most machines at $799. The catch is that X and Y still ride on wheels with lead screws, so it is a stiffer hobby machine, not a rail-and-ballscrew one. For wood, plastics and light aluminium it is a sensible buy, just know where its limits are.
Who this fits best
Makers who want a compact desktop router with NEMA23 motors and lots of Z height for thick stock or rotary work
Buy this if
Makers who want a compact desktop router with NEMA23 motors and lots of Z height for thick stock or rotary work. NEMA23 motors on DM542 external drivers, a real step up from NEMA17 desktop machines.
Skip this if
X and Y run on wheels, not linear rails, which is the weak spot for side load and long-term accuracy, and lead screws on all axes where the cheaper-listed 4030 V2 uses ball screws.
What else you still need
Budget for the U232 Wi-Fi module if you want app control (only the cable is in the box), a dust shoe and shop vac, and better end mills than the included engraving and corn-cob bits. The VCarve Desktop bundle adds $400 over the machine-only price.
Material reality check
Hardwood, MDF, plywood, acrylic and plastics are comfortable with the 710W router and NEMA23 drive. Aluminium works with small cutters and light passes, but the wheel-guided X and Y axes will deflect before the motors run out of torque, so keep metal jobs shallow.
Better alternative if...
ball screws and closed-loop motors matter more to you than spindle power, the PROVerXL 4030 V2 has the better motion system and you can fit a stronger router later. See Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2
Where it wins
- NEMA23 motors on DM542 external drivers, a real step up from NEMA17 desktop machines
- 120mm of Z travel, unusually deep for a 400 x 300 machine
- 710W trim router with ER11 collet included
- 5000 mm/min max speed, well above the 2000 mm/min of the original 4030
- X and Z modules come pre-assembled with drag chains, so setup is short
Where it falls short
- X and Y run on wheels, not linear rails, which is the weak spot for side load and long-term accuracy
- Lead screws on all axes where the cheaper-listed 4030 V2 uses ball screws
- Wi-Fi module for the app is not in the box
- Sainsmart does not publish a net weight
- 400 x 300 bed is small for the price once you add a dust shoe and fixturing
