The Secret Life Of Gas Springs
1.2M subscribers
The video covers the internal mechanics and physics of gas springs, explaining how compressed nitrogen gas and a sealed piston system generate near-constant force over a stroke. It includes disassembly, pressure measurements, and real-world testing to demonstrate their behavior under load, debunking common misconceptions. This is useful for CNC builders, furniture designers, and anyone using gas springs for counterbalancing or controlled motion in mechanical systems.
Description
Need a constant force? Gas springs have got you covered! But how on earth do they do what they do?! We need some common ground to understand what's going on. If you can't stand the wait, jump to 17:28. -------------- Music: Wayne Jones 'Mr. Sunny Face'

24:27 The rod itself is pushed by the atmospheric pressure too ;-)
02:18 - compression spring in the hardware is used to limit how far it can extend. an extension spring would just straighten out and break.
If you noticed the screwdriver changing; No you didn't. Tony would never pull such a dirty trick. That editor though...he might.
Because it is no longer a sealed unit.
Nice ride!
